Toyota MR2

The Toyota MR2 was a small two seater rear engine sports car. The MR2 was made from 1984-2007. In that time frame three generations where made: W10, W20, W30. The first generation, W10 was made from 1984-1989. This was a car that no one suspected from Toyota. At the time Toyota was only making practical and family cars so to release a sports car seemed odd. It so happens that they new what they where doing. The W10 weigh as little as 2,350 lbs in the US and since it weighed so little it was a handling demon. The W10 MR2 had a four cylinder 1.6 L engine that produced 112hp with a 0-60mph time in about eight seconds and a 1/4 mile in about 16 seconds.
The Next generation was the W20. It was made from 1989-1999. The W20 was a bit larger than the previous generation and weighed about 350-400 pounds more. However like the W10 it was still very successful with some times being referred to has the "poor mans Ferrari." The new MR2 also had a new engine that was a 2.0L with 130hp. With the extra power the W20 could do 0-60mph in about 6 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 14 seconds.
When October of 1999 came around Toyota released the last of the MR2 breed with the W30. It was lighter than all the other models but came standard as a convertible. Even with a 1.8L 138hp engine the car still only weighed 2,195 lbs. 0-60mph times where also decent at about 6 seconds. But like all good things the MR2 had to come to an end in July of 2007.

McLaren MP4-12C

The McLaren MP4-12C is about the best super car all around. It may not have looks as stunning as its competitor, the Ferrari 458 Italia, but it makes up for it in other categories. Let's start off with something that really sets the McLaren and the Ferrari apart. Out of all the expensive high performance super cars, the MP4-12C is the most comfortable. That is something that is really surprising on a car that can go around the Top Gear test track in 1:16.2, which is the second fastest lap. The McLaren is also 190 lbs lighter then the 458, making it 3,084 lbs. That's not a whole lot, but it does make a difference. The MP4-12C has a 3.8L V8, while the 458 has a 4.5L V8, but its 0-60 mph time is faster. The 458 can do a 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds while the MP4-12C does it in 2.9 seconds. Also, the MP4-12C has 600 hp instead of the 458's 563 hp. On more plus to the MP4-12C is it can get up to 30 mpg. The 458 does have a advantage with its price: The 458 costs $220,000 whereas the MP4-12C costs $225,000. It's not a lot, but you could save $5,000.

BMW M3

The BMW M3 is a high performance version of the 3 series line of cars. The M3 started back in 1986 which the E30 M3. The E30 developed into the E36 which developed into the E46 and finally what is used today the E90/92/93 M3. The new M3 comes in three different configurations: convertible E93, coup E92, and sedan E90. All three of the models come with a 4.0L V8 engine with 420hp and 295 ft-lb of torque. All three of the models weigh different amounts but get about the same 0-60mph time. The  convertible weighs in at 4,145 lb with the coup  weighs 3,704 lb. The sedan only weighs 22 lb heavier then coup at 3,726. The coup can do 0-60mph in just 3.9mph with a 1/4 mile time of 12.4 seconds at 114mph. The M series has some really cool cars for a base price of $62,295 which is still a fair amount.

Nissan GT-R

The Nissan GT-R is the ultimate in cheaper fast cars. It is replacing the old Skyline GT-R which was Nissan's sports car in the late 60's to early 70's and also from the late 80's to the early 2000's. They released the new GT-R in December of 2007. The 2011 GT-R has a 3.8L 520 hp engine, but for 2012 a brand new 540 hp engine will be used. To help this beast get the most power possible, it has a 6-speed automatic dual clutch transmission and with AWD it can go from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds while using "launch control." After you have the thrill of its intense acceleration you will be able to feel its intense top speed of 196 mph. But unfortunately, it costs $89,950, so it won't be in my garage for a long time.
