Bugatti Super Sport
The Bugatti Super Sport, on April 19, 2005, broke the world record for the fastest prouduction car in the world at 267 mph. It may cost $2.7 million but we need to consider that the whole chassis is made from titanium and hand assembled. The Super Sport uses special tires that cost $33,000 for a set and the wheels must be shipped to France for the tires to be replaced, at a cost of $94,000. The engine in the Super Sport is an 8.0 liter W16 VW design that produces 1,200 metric horsepower, or 1,184 bhp. At full speed, the Bugatti burns the 26 gallons of gas in its tank in 12 minutes. The TV show Top Gear called the Bugatti, "The greatest car ever made and the greatest car we will ever see in our lifetime." Gordon Murray, the designer of the McLaren F1 (the previous fastest production car) said about the Bugatti: "The most pointless exercise on the planet has got to be this four-wheel-drive, thousand-horsepower Bugatti." He later test drove one and was impressed with its engine and transmission.
