In 1966 Lamborghini launched the car that started the high performance, two-seater, mid-engine sports car trend. When it was being designed with Marcello Gandini, who has designed cars like the Countach, BMW M5 and Lancia Stratos, at the helm, it was certain for success in both beauty and performance, but Ferruccio Lamborghini thought it would not be successful. He manly thought that because he thought that Lamborghini should make fast Grand Touring cars instead of race car-derived cars. Despite Lamborghini's idea of the company, the Miura or P400 was designed under the table and was a big success. When it was released it was the fastest production car to date. All should pay homage to Miura's reason for speed; its 3.9 L V12. The V12 might be small by todays standards but back than it was fairly big, and powerful with the SV(most powerful, 150 built) model having 385 hp. The 0-60 mph time of the Miura SV was 5.8 seconds and a top speed of 170 mph. When the Miura was released in 1966 it cost $20,000 or $114,00 in todays money with a total of 474 built. The green P400SV model below sold for around $850,000 at an auction last year in Arizona. So long for now until late August. As always, have a nice day.
