Pagani Huaryra

The Pagani Huaryra is the newest hyper car from the Italian company Pagani. The car is made manly of carbon fiber and aluminum which helps keep the weight down to 3,000 lbs. Also to save weight the used a sequential gear box instead of a dual clutch even though it shifts slower. That might seem heavy for a car mad out of carbon fiber and aluminum but is is caring around a twin-turbo Mercedes-AMG V12 in the back. The 6 Liter engine produces over 700 hp with a top speed of 230 mph. The Huaryra can do 0-60mph in just 3.3 seconds. Unfortunately like all Italian made cars the Huaryra will cost $1,150,000  when it comes out in 2013. Scary right.

Jensen Interceptor

The Jensen Interceptor was a sporty, United Kingdom, GT car hand made from 1966 to 1976. The body was made from steel instead of glass reinforced plastic. The Interceptor had a Chrysler V8 with a option of about 390hp. It was a expensive lightish car weighing in at 3,500 lbs but was built very poorly so it never really caught on.

Ascari A10

The Ascari A10 is built by a British company founded by a Dutch millionaire Klaas Zwart. The A10 was designed by a ex-formula one driver Paul Brown. The A10 is also the third car with the name intended to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the company. The engine in the A10 is a modified BMW 5.0 L V8 producing 625 hp. With a body made completely from carbon fiber  and no soundproofing or air conditioning the A10's weight is only 2,882. With its powerful engine and light weight the A10 can get up to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds and all the way up to 220 mph. Unfortunately Ascari is going to hand assemble only 50 with prices starting at $650,000.

McLaren F1

The McLaren F1 was the super car from 1992-1998 with only 106 made. For about $970,000 you get three seats, luggage compartments, and a gold lined engine compartment because its the best insulator. Another thing you get is a car that can go from 0-60 in 3.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 243 mph. It does this with a curb weight of 2,513 lb and a BMW 6.1 L, V12 with 618 hp. One reason the car was so light is because the body panels where made of carbon fiber. Since the car was made of carbon fiber it needed a good insulator so about .8 ounces of gold foil was used on each car in the engine bay. As of today each .8 ounces of gold out of the engine compartment would cost $1363.84. Further more the McLaren F1 can get up to 23 mpg!

Gumpert Apollo

The Gumpert Apollo is one of the newest super cars out with production starting in 2005. The car prototype was funded by Audi and assist in making the car. Since the Apollo has carbon fiber body panels it only weighs about 2,400 lbs and with a 4.2L, 650 hp V8 it only takes the Apollo about 3 seconds to reach 60 mph and only 9 seconds to reach 120. With race car aerodynamics the car can reach over 223 mph and if driven at 190 mph can stay upside down in side a tunnel. Unfortunately like all fun toys the Apollo comes with a $400,000 but is offered in the US.

Ferrari 599

The Ferrari 599 is a very different Ferrari in the since that the engine is in the front not the middle. However its still very Ferrari. The  6.0L,5999cc, V12 engine produces 612hp. Thats very Ferrari. Also the 599 can do 0-60 mph in just 3.7 second and go all the way up to 205 mph! Unfortunately all those big numbers a crushed by the big price tag at $410,000.

Lotus Elise

The Lotus Elise has been the handling king since the Elise came out in 1996. Lotus had there first model out from 1996 to 2001 when they replaced it with a new and improved model. The Elise has a curb weight of 1,896 lbs to 2,006 lbs. The Elise comes with three engine options: a 1.8 L Rover K-Seires, 1.8 Toyota 1ZZ-FE, or a Toyota 2ZZ-GE all in line four engines. With the Toyota 2ZZ engine in Europe the Elise can for from 0-60 mph in just 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 150 mph. The Lotus Elise chassis is widely used amongst other car manufactures like the Tesla Roadster who used it for its light weight design. The Elise price ranges from $47,250 - $54,990 and get 20 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the freeway.
